Doug Pederson has placed an emphasis on Eagles’ offense starting faster in 1st quarter

The Philadelphia Eagles have a lot of new additions to the offense and head coach, Doug Pederson, is hoping that translates to more explosive plays in the first quarter of the game. The Eagles were a playoff team in 2018 but struggled as a unit to score points in the first quarter of games.

After landing among top 3 in the NFL in 2017 in first-quarter points (106 points), the Birds fell all the way down to the bottom of the league, only scoring 41 points in the first quarter all season. For Pederson that has to change, and the Eagles head coach has placed an emphasis on starting off games faster.

Pederson highlighted the Eagles penchant for penalties and turnovers at the start of ball games as something that hindered the offense at times. Pederson would like the offense and especially Carson Wentz, to control what he can control, while not always looking for the huge play.
