The Denver Broncos have started the season 0-3 and superstar outside linebackers Von Miller and Bradley Chubb have combined to record a grand total of zero sacks so far.
On paper, Denver looks like a bad team with no pass rush.
Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Marrone doesn’t buy that.
“They’re great players,” Marrone said of Chubb and Miller on Monday. “Not good players, great players. And they have a lot of other good players on that defense when you go through that defense. So again, it’s a plan. You don’t really think about where they are record-wise or anything of that nature.”
Marrone indicated that the Broncos haven’t been able to get the best out of their players so far but that doesn’t mean the team’s defense should be overlooked.
“That’s the one thing I think early in the season, you don’t get into [records],” the coach said. “You just look at the players, have a ton of respect for them, they’re great players and, ‘Hey, what can we do to help ourselves or put our players in a position where they can be successful?’ And I’m sure it’s like anything else in this league, it doesn’t change there. They’re looking at how they can put their players in position to be successful.”
Miller and Chubb haven’t been very successful so far this year but that could change at any moment. The two edge defenders haven’t been productive through three weeks of the season but Jacksonville is still taking them seriously. Denver’s defense is taking the Jaguars’ offense seriously, too.
