Doubts cast over Liverpool's Community Shield involvement against Arsenal or Chelsea

The Football Association has cast doubt on whether Premier League champions Liverpool will feature against the FA Cup winners in the Community Shield on August 29.

The date for the annual curtain-raiser to the new Premier League season has been set, with Arsenal or Chelsea competing dependent on who emerges victorious from this weekend's FA Cup final.

However, while both London clubs have been mentioned, The Sun reports that the FA will state the two confirmed competing sides next week.

A draft press release confirming the details of the fixture was changed to omit Liverpool's name, while Arsenal and Chelsea's were kept in.

That raises questions as to whether Jurgen Klopp's side have refused to take part, with the turnaround between the two seasons being extremely short.

However, Arsenal and Chelsea's involvement in the FA Cup final this weekend means that they will have a quicker turnaround that the Reds, who played their last game of the season last weekend.

On top of that, Chelsea still have the second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 clash against Bayern Munich next week, where they trail 3-0 from the first leg.
