Doubt has been cast over whether the Glasgow Loves Christmas events will be going ahead this year in light of the coronavirus crisis.
The city usually hosts a selection of events throughout November and December including the annual Christmas lights switch-on and festive markets.
Organisers Glasgow Life are currently developing options for what the events will look like if physical distancing measures are still in place.
They have said that Covid 'looks likely to have some impact on what can be delivered'.
A spokesperson for Glasgow Life said: “Covid-19 looks likely to have some impact on what can be delivered as part of Glasgow Loves Christmas.
"It’s too early to say what that will be but we are developing options for Glasgow Loves Christmas and look forward to sharing them when finalised.”
The news comes after Edinburgh's famous Hogmanay Street Party was cancelled due to the uncertainty of the pandemic.
Elsewhere, Renfrewshire Council has already cancelled their normal fireworks displays and Christmas lights switch-on.
Around 13,000 people usually attend the ticketed Glasgow Christmas lights switch-on with thousands more attending the Christmas markets set up in George Square during its four-week run.
Nicola Sturgeon has previously said that physical distancing is likely to be in place for the foreseeable future with the aim to suppress the virus to enable the country to deal with a possible resurgence of the virus in the winter months.
Research suggests the virus can survive longer in colder conditions and is more likely to spread when people spend more time indoors.
