Joe Elenteny of Tinley Park doubled his Kankakee River experience a week ago.
“We were out on the river last night before the cold front,” his buddy Patrick Patel tweeted Thursday. “We got into some fish, but something happened I’ve never seen. My buddy Joe got a double. Same cast, same lure (Rapala topwater), with a semi-broken reel. and bam!!!”
Elenteny hooked and released two 19-inch smallmouth bass on one lure on the same cast.
“Beautiful fish,” Patel tweeted. “A very fun night. Bite started around 6:50-7:15 p.m.”
Those beautiful fish and the beautiful even scene are worth a full-length look.

FOTW, the celebration of big fish and their stories (the stories matter, as this one shows) around Chicago fishing, runs Wednesdays in the paper Sun-Times. The online posting here at https://chicago.suntimes.com/outdoors goes up at varied days of the week, depending on what is going on the wide world of the outdoors.
