A mixed day for the local hopefuls yesterday saw Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai move into the quarter-finals of the US$350,000 Thailand Open at Nimibutr Stadium.

Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai also came through their women's doubles second round match of the BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament.

Kantaphon Wangcharoen, Khosit Phetpradab and Suppanyu Avihingsanon also made it to the last eight, but some of the top Thai bets for singles titles, including Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk, Pornpawee Chochuwong and Busanan Ongbamrungphan, crashed out of the event.

Seventh seeds Dechapol and Sapsiree defeated Mak Hee Chun and Yeung Nga Ting of Hong Kong 21-17, 21-13 and will take on China's Lu Kai and Chen Lu for a place in the mixed doubles semi-finals.

Fifth seeds Jongkolphan and Rawinda got the better of Taiwan's Chen Hsiao-huan and Hu Ling-fang 21-10, 21-17. They next face top seeds Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota of Japan.

Kantaphon beat fellow Thai Sitthikom Thammasin 21-11, 21-9 and will play Indonesia's Tommy Sugiarto, who defeated Tanongsak, in the last eight of the men's singles.

Khosit dominated England's Rajiv Ouseph 23-21, 21-13, while Suppanyu also put on an impressive show to defeat Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia 21-18, 21-12.

In the women's singles event, Pornpawee lost to fourth seed Nozomi Okuhara of Japan 18-21, 15-21 while Busanan was beaten by Michelle Li of Canada 21-15, 12-21, 19-21.

In the women's doubles second round, Savitree Amitrapai and Pacharapun Chochuwong retired trailing 5-11 in the second game against second seeds Shiho Tanaka abd Koharu Yonemoto. The Japanese pair took the first game 21-6.
