Double tragedy as two young men die in separate crashes in Wexford and Meath

Two men died yesterday after horror road crashes just 16 hours apart.

Billy Anderson, 38, was killed instantly when his car collided with another vehicle on the Castlebridge/Gorey Road in Co Wexford at 8.30am.

Meanwhile, 27-year-old Chris Bell died yesterday in hospital from injuries sustained when his motorbike and a tractor collided at Balrath Cross, Kells, Co Meath, at 4.10pm on Saturday.

Mr Anderson, who had a four-year-old son, was an addiction counsellor and comedian.

He was originally from the US but had lived in Gorey, Co Wexford, for a number of years.

The female driver of the second car involved was injured and rushed to Wexford General Hospital.

The American had been due to travel to Craigavon, Co Armagh, yesterday morning with the Wexford Eagles American football team, which he coached.

Friend and head coach Kevin Klatt said: “He was absolutely larger than life and the guys are genuinely in absolute bits.”

Mr Bell passed away in James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Dublin.

The driver of the tractor, a 19-year-old man, was not injured.

The Reserve Defence Force Representative Association paid tribute to the victim.

It said: “It is with great sadness that RDFRA must announce the passing of Corporal [Army Reserve] Chris Bell, Infantry Battalion, following a road traffic accident.

“The association’s thoughts are with his family and comrades at this difficult time.”
