Double tragedy as 'legend' Scots dad dies in bicycle crash eight years after son's death

A devastated family are mourning the death of a beloved ex-marine eight years after his son tragically lost his life.

Tansy Lee died after crashing his bicycle outside Auchmithie School House in Angus on Friday morning.

The 61-year-old, from the Arbroath area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is the second tragedy to hit the family in the last decade after Tansy's son Barrie died suddenly in 2012.

The three-times Scottish light-middleweight boxing champion had been working in Ghana, West Africa, when he was found dead in the shower after going for a run.

Postmortem tests carried out could find no reason for the young dad’s death other than the fact his heart had simply stopped beating.

His death was recorded as sudden adult death syndrome.

He was just 30-years old, leaving behind son Jack, then aged seven, and fiancee Stacey.

Two years later, parents Tansy and Frances, 61, launched a bid to raise awareness of the syndrome after Tansy suffered a heart attack in his 40s.

Popular Tansy, who served with the Royal Marines between 1975 and 2013, was described as a ‘true legend’ by friends on social media.

One person wrote: "RIP tansy, an all round hoofing bootneck and a true legend."

While another posted: "R.I.P Tansy, I was glad to have known you, may you ride high up there in the skies above us, rest easy royal.

And a third said: "RIP Tansy, such a lovely man and a true friend. Thoughts and prayers to Frances and family."

Police are still investigating his death but are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Sergeant William Strachan, of the Dundee Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with Mr Lee’s family at this sad time.

Enquiries into the exact circumstances are ongoing, however we are not looking for any additional vehicles or individuals in connection with the incident."

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

The Daily Record contacted Tansy's family, but they did not want to comment.
