Double the number of passengers can ride First West Yorkshire buses from today

First West Yorkshire is now allowing more passengers on buses but says strict measures remain in place to reduce the risk of infection.

From Tuesday, July 15, drivers will allow up to 36 passengers on double decker buses and 20 on single decker buses.

The company says a new layout will provide more seats but all passengers must continue to wear masks and staff will continue to carry out "an enhanced cleaning regime to protect against Covid-19".

The First Bus app also shows passengers how many seats are available on each service.

Paul Matthews, managing director of First West Yorkshire, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming back more customers over the coming weeks and months.

"Whilst capacity still remains restricted to keep our customers safe, we will have many more seats available than in recent weeks.

“We know that this additional capacity will be a great relief to some commuters, as well as passengers considering their first journeys for leisure purposes.

"We are grateful to all our customers for adhering to our on-board measures and thank them for their continued support.”
