Double surprise for expectant Motherwell mum as fiancé pops the question at gender reveal

There was a second surprise in store for an expectant mum when her fiancé got down on one knee just seconds after discovering they were having a baby girl.

Steph Louise Flynn, 26, who lives in Motherwell with partner Kevin Hunter, held a virtual party for family and friends using the Zoom video app.

Due to coronavirus restrictions the couple were unable to have anyone present at their baby gender reveal but it turned out to be a double celebration.

The couple’s son Kai was tasked with the duty of bursting the specially made black balloon decorated with the message “I am going to be a big brother to a ????”

The youngster and 20 family members, including Steph and Kevin’s parents, were waiting eagerly to find out whether he will have a little brother or sister.

Four-year-old Kai made several attempts on the balloon with a pin before dad Kevin stepped in to help.

It popped to reveal smaller pink and white ones inside, confirming the baby is a girl.

Already delighted family members then watched as Kevin pulled out a box with a ring and got down on one knee to pop the question to shocked Steph.

The couple have been together for seven years and speaking to the Daily Record, laboratory analyst Steph admitted she thought he’d never ask.

“It was the biggest and best surprise ever,” she said.

“We’ve been together for so long, I honestly never thought it would happen so it came as a complete shock to me.

“It was totally amazing, especially after just finding out we were having a little girl.

“I’m still crying about it.

“It was just the best proposal ever and I’m so happy.”

Family members who joined the Zoom party could be seen on the couple’s television in the background, and be heard screaming and cheering as Steph, a former pupil at Caldervale High, said “yes”.

Steph added: “It was great because it was a surprise for everyone just like the gender reveal too.

“They were all delighted for us.

“I’m just over the moon and beyond.

“I have no words it. It was just by far one of the best days of my life.”

Steph posted the video on social media where it was met with hundreds of lovely comments from well-wishers, some of whom were moved to tears.

Emma Hume said: “Omg Steph Louise Flynn I actually just cried watching that. I’m sooo happy for you babe congratulations to you all absolutely amazing she is going to be the most beautiful wee princess.”

Aj Garry said: “Congratulations to you all. I burst into tears, wonderful news.”

Nikki Lees Stephen added: “Awww congratulations Mrs that was beautiful, congrats on ur ring...that brought a wee tear to me.”

Responding to the messages, Steph said: “Thank you so much everyone for your kind comments, too many to reply to but we really appreciate it. On cloud 9, woke up looked at my left hand and made sure the confetti was still pink. Still there and not a dream!”
