Double Olympian Kirsty Gilmour is excited to get back to normal tournament life

Kirsty Gilmour says she's not satisfied with her Olympics performance in Tokyo, but hopes she gave Japan's Akane Yamaguchi a shock before bowing out of the women's singles at the group stages.

Gilmour went down in straight sets, 21-9 21-18, after beating Pakistan's Mahoor Shahzad 21-14 21-14 in her opening match.

Bothwell ace Gilmour says she'll take a rest from everything, but is looking forward to getting back to normal tournament life, post-Covid.

Speaking from Japan, Kirsty told Lanarkshire Live Sport: "That's the games done for me but I thought I had a decent showing.

"The first game was good, no problems there, but that was really just to get going and get started against the girl from Pakistan.

"Then, against Yamaguchi, well she's number five in the world for a reason.

"I'd like to think definitely in that second set I gave her a bit of a shock, gave her something to think about."

Gilmour added: "I wouldn't say I was satisfied with my Olympic performance, going out of the group stages, but if I look at the specific match performance, I managed to implement a lot of the things that I've been training and working on.

"I feel fine about it, is the best way I can describe it, but I am really excited for what comes next, and what comes after.

"It's a rest, immediately, but after that I'm really excited to get back in to training, back into the tournaments, because I think that's something I've really been missing lately, that kind of match-play, to incorporate all my things from training.

"I'm really excited to get back into tournaments and back into the proper swing of things, post Covid, so I'm excited for what's to come."
