Double Liverpool boost confirmed by Jurgen Klopp amid Diogo Jota update ahead of Chelsea clash

Liverpool are set to welcome back Alisson Becker and Fabinho for Thursday night's Premier League clash with Chelsea.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed the massive double boost after watching his side end a run of four consecutive Premier League defeats by beating Sheffield United 2-0 at Bramall Lane on Sunday night.

Fabinho has missed Liverpool's last four outings across all competitions with a muscle injury, while Alisson sat out the win over the Blades on compassionate grounds following the passing of his father earlier last week.

The good news for the Reds ahead of the visit of Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel to Anfield is that the Brazilian duo are expected to be available for selection.

Furthermore, Diogo Jota could be in contention to return to the Liverpool squad for the first time since December.

"Alisson and Fabinho, I’m pretty sure [will be available]," Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com. "With Diogo, he was with us in the hotel, but he got sick overnight and we had to send him home.

"It depends how quick he will recover, obviously.

"He was in the squad and as I said before, he trained with the team and it all looked really good but unfortunately he got sick overnight.

"I think he will be available, but I don’t know."

Jota potentially being available will certainly hand Liverpool a huge boost and could have a major impact on the top-four battle.

The Portugal international only arrived at Anfield from Wolves last summer but made quite the impact in a short space of time prior to his injury setback.

Nine goals across all competitions meant he was the second top scorer in the Reds squad - behind only Mohamed Salah - before he sustained a knee injury during Liverpool's 1-1 draw against FC Midtjylland in the Champions League in early December.

And with Klopp's side without a Premier League goal from open play in 2021, Jota could be the player to end that barren run.

Chelsea head to Merseyside a point clear of the reigning champions in the table and both teams will be aware that the victory can take them into the top-four at West Ham United's expense.
