Double jabbed Talksport and ex-Scotland player struck down with covid

Former Scotland player Alan Brazil has been struck down by covid, despite having been fully vaccinated.

The retired footballer turned radio presenter from Glasgow said he felt ill after catching Covid-19 last week.

Brazil, 62, announced on his Talksport breakfast show today he has contracted the illness.

He was forced to pull out of a speaking event in London on Wednesday night and is now self-isolating at his home in Suffolk.

The former Ipswich Town and Manchester United striker said he thought he was safe from the virus as he has had his two jabs.

He said: "I've not been well the last few days, I've got covid. I am five days in and I'm isolating.

"Thank God I have had the double jab or I could be in big trouble.

"I'm just beginning to feel better again thank God.

"I didn't think I could get it. When you are double jabbed you think you can't get it, what a load of nonsense."

Recent analysis by Public Health England suggests that Covid-19 vaccines are highly effective against needing hospital admission with the Delta variant of coronavirus after both doses.

The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is said to be 96 per cent effective and the Oxford/AstraZeneca jab 92 per cent effective.

Government guidance says some people may still get covid despite having a vaccination but it should be less severe.
