Double jabbed Scottish student who had first jag in England may miss wedding over rules

A double vaccinated Scots student who received one jag in England may miss her brother's wedding due to confusion over cross border rules.

Giulia Calabrese has received both doses of vaccine but fears she will be unable to get the paperwork for a quarantine exemption to travel abroad.

The St Andrews University student is looking to travel to an amber country for the wedding. However despite records indicating she's had both doses, the jag certificate from NHS Scotland only certifies the second dose meaning she's ineligible for the UK Government's quarantine exemption.

As reported by the Daily Record, Lib Dem MP Wendy Chamberlain is involved with three cases of students who have been unable to qualify for the exemption despite being double jabbed – one of them being Giulia.

Giulia said: “I’m very sad and disappointed I might have to miss my brother’s wedding.

"I’ve been very careful to ensure I got both vaccines and had all the paperwork ready.

“I can’t understand why the vaccination programmes in England and Scotland are struggling to match up people.”

NHS England said a system is now in place to share vaccine data between Scotland and England but Giulia has still not been able to obtain a quarantine exemption.

The Record reports that Ms Chamberlain has written to Humza Yousaf, Scottish Health Secretary, in a bid to find a solution.

The Scottish Government said: “We‘ve a process for sharing data between England and Scotland.

"We’ll contact Ms Chamberlain to see if we can assist with these cases.”
