Double-jabbed people should take a lateral flow every day for 10 days if close contact get Covid

Close contacts of those who have Coronavirus have been told to complete daily later flow tests from Tuesday.

Alongside this, those who test positive, develop symptoms, or are unvaccinated should continue to self-isolate for 10 days, under new guidance.

If you test negative and have received two jabs, you will not need to self isolate.

The government has said the change in guidance "aims to reduce pressures on people's everyday lives by replacing the requirement for Omicron contacts to isolate for 10 days".

People who receive a positive result from a lateral flow should then take a PCR test to confirm the result.

If a lateral flow test of a close contact comes back negative, you are free to continue day to day life, but should still continue to test.

The new guidance comes as Omnicron cases rise across the country, with the Government recently announcing 'Plan B'.

Health and Social Care Secretary Sajid Javid said: "We are taking this proportionate and more practical measure to limit the impact on people's day-to-day lives while helping to reduce the spread of Omicron."

The new advice is guidance rather than law, although the Government have said this will stay under review.

Unvaccinated individuals are not covered by the new guidance, and must isolate regardless of a negative result.

Dr Jenny Harries, CEO of the UK Health Security Agency, said: "If you haven't had any vaccine, a first and second dose still gives you protection against becoming seriously unwell.

"Don't worry about stepping forwards now - you will be warmly welcomed by our vaccination staff."
