Covid Scotland: Double jab waiver confirmed for Scottish travellers from amber list countries

Scotland will follow England in ditching quarantine for double jabbed travellers returning from amber list countries.

The First Minister has just announced the move in a virtual statement to the Scottish Parliament.

Nicola Sturgeon didn't offer any detail other than to say the rule will change will be introduced from next Monday, July 19 but pointed out the Scottish Government will still continue to travel against non-essential travel abroad.

She said: "We will continue to take a precautionary approach to the inclusion of countries on the amber list. And, notwithstanding this change, we continue to advise against non-essential overseas travel at this time.

"For the avoidance of doubt, let me be clear that anyone testing positive for, or experiencing symptoms of, covid will still require to isolate for 10 days."

The move comes less than a week after UK Transport Minister Grant Shapps revealed that fully vaccinated English travellers and under 18s will not have to self isolate on their return from countries on the amber list.

Ms Sturgeon also announced a move to level 0 lockdown in Scotland from next Monday, with some changes to the original plan.

Hospitality will also be allowed to trade from 4am until midnight, but the wearing of face coverings will remain mandatory in many settings, including public transport, for some time to come.

She added: "Measures like the continued wearing of face coverings are important, not just to give added protection to the population as a whole, but also to give protection and assurance to those amongst us who are particularly vulnerable and previously had to shield."
