Double glazing firm fit windows that are too wee

A Paisley firm has been slammed - for putting in windows that were too small.

Fitters suggested filling the gap with wood and plastic until they were asked to down tools by their stunned customers.

They’d already installed six glazing units on two bay window formations.

Customer Stephen Farrell said: “I have measured the gap at 80 mm.

“We wanted glass to fill the space, which is not unreasonable.

“I can’t believe the company continued to put more windows in when it was obvious they didn’t fit.

“All six they put in were too small.”

Clydebuilt Home Improvements Ltd is based in a business centre in Renfrew Road, Paisley.

Customer Stephen Farrell is now looking forward to a tight fit with his new windows (submitted)

Retired council worker Stephen and his wife Angela, 61, found the firm on Facebook and signed a £6,200 deal for the double glazing on November 5.

Workers fitted the windows of the house in Holytown, Lanarkshire on Monday before being halted.

Old windows had been the perfect fit (Submitted)

Stephen, 62, added: “They fitted them in both rooms knowing there was an 80mm gap.

“When I challenged them they said they would sort it out by putting strips of wood and filling it in.

“I said, ‘No you are not’.

“It would have just looked so odd.

“It actually looked as if we had been sent a different order.”

The deal was for ten windows for the red-sandstone semi, built in 1908 on Main Street, Holytown.

The firm is now having to make new windows that are the right size.

Close up on the gap - workers planned to fill it with wood and plastic. But fair play to the boss - he has ordered a re-fit (Submitted)

Clydebuilt Home Improvements boss Scott Smith said they had pulled out all the stops after a genuine human error.

He said: “Clydebuilt Home Improvements we always strive to provide our customers with the best service we possibly can.

“Unfortunately in this instance we did not meet our usual standards on our production line and we have expressed our apologies to the customer.

“When human error occurs we always rectify it as fast as we possibly can.

“Within only five hours of the error being identified we had organised the remake of the Windows and provided Mr and Mrs Farrell a new date installation date for which we can fit the correct windows. These dates are March 11 and 12.

“Hopefully the public will see that although mistakes happen, we work in a timely fashion to make things right.”
