Jan. 28--A decision on the Double Door's fate was delayed again Wednesday as attorneys for the Wicker Park club's landlord seek more information about a letter dated in April from the club's co-owner asking for a lease extension.
The lease for the Double Door, 1572 N. Milwaukee Ave., expired Oct. 31. Attorneys for landlord Brian Strauss filed a complaint in Cook County Circuit Court Nov. 3 seeking Double Door's eviction.
In court Wednesday, Strauss' attorney Bonita Stone said she wants to question club co-owner Sean Mulroney about an April 24 letter asking for a lease extension. A copy of the letter was recently filed with the court.
"My client said he never got such a letter," Stone said.
Strauss was in court Wednesday but declined to speak to the media. Mulroney did not return a Tribune request for comment.
While the case is being decided, the Double Door has made monthly occupancy payments of $19,760 to Strauss, who asked for $22,760. A Double Door attorney agreed club representatives would pay the $9,000 difference that covers three months of occupancy with its February occupancy payment.
Stone also said that Strauss plans to show the property to prospective buyers.
Both sides are due back in court Feb. 29.
Double Door management squared off against its landlords in court in 2005 over lease troubles before a multiyear agreement was reached. The club, which has been hosting shows since 1994, has dates booked into April, according to the club's online calendar.
