Two men are facing accusations of reckless driving after a hatchback was spotted cruising through an industrial park in the Spanish city of Segovia with a white van balanced on its roof.
The incident was captured on video by another driver, who pulled up alongside the Ford Focus, which had the Renault van teetering on top with its wheels partially obscuring the driver’s view.
The video, uploaded last week, soon went viral, catching the attention of local police who opened an investigation.
On Wednesday, police said they had identified the driver, who told them he had been instructed by his company to transport the van, the Spanish daily El Norte de Castilla reported. The investigation was then widened to include the man’s boss.
The van’s owner also spoke to police, telling them he had left the decommissioned vehicle at a junkyard in the summer.
Police are now collecting evidence to hand over to a court in Segovia, where a judge will determine whether the pair broke any traffic laws. Both could face fines of at least €500 (£353), while the driver risks losing his licence.
Police said they are continuing to search for others involved in the incident, as they suspect more than two people were involved in lifting the van on to the car.
