Double decker bus engulfed in flames in Peterhead as emergency services race to scene

Emergency services have raced to scene of a double decker bus fire in Aberdeenshire this afternoon.

Picture online show a Stagecoach bus with flames and smoke rising from the roof of the vehichle.

Stagecoach have confirmed that the passengers and driver of the bus are safe.

The shocking incident happened in Crimond, Peterhead, close to the an old people's home at around 2.25pm.

Writing on social media, witness Jennifer Lavelle said: "Everyone got of the bus and is safe."

While local Stephanie Webster said: "I had to do a uturn. Whole bus is on fire when I was there."

Scottish Fire and Rescue confirmed there were no casualties in the incident. (SFRS)

A Stagecoach Bluebird spokeswoman, said: "Our driver is safe and well, as are the few passengers who were on board."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 2.25pm on Friday, July 3 to reports of a double-decker bus on fire on the A90, near Peterhead.

"Operations Control mobilised three appliances to the scene, where firefighters currently remain working to extinguish the fire.

"There are no reported casualties and the southbound carriageway is presently closed."

A Police Scotland Spokesperson said: “Around 2.30pm on Friday, 3 July, 2020, we received a report of a bus on fire on the A90, Crimond, near Peterhead.

“Emergency services are in attendance and the southbound carriageway is currently closed.

"There does not appear to be any injuries.”
