Double decker bus and two cars in crash near busy motorway

A double-decker bus and two cars were involved in a crash near a busy motorway.

The incident happened just before 12pm today and one person was removed from a car on a spine board and taken to hospital.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service confirmed everyone had been released from their vehicles following the collision on the junction of Palmwood Close and Woodchurch Road in Prenton, Wirral close to Junction 3 of the M53.

They said they were called to the scene at 1.16pm and were there by 1.21pm.

Two fire engines and a search and rescue team arrived to find two occupants out of one car and the driver and all the passengers off the bus with no reports of any injuries.

One casualty was still in one of the cars and was removed with the assistance of fire officers using a spine board and taken to hospital by the North West Ambulance Service.

Some had taken to social media to warn others to avoid the area due to traffic delays which some witnesses reported seeing tailed back on to Junction 3 of the M53.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We were called at 12.55pm today, Friday, June 18, to reports of a collision involving a double decker bus, a Ford Focus and a Dacia Sandero on Woodchurch Road/Palmwood Close.

"There are no reports of anyone being seriously injured. Damage was caused to street furniture.

"The vehicles have now been removed but the incident has caused traffic congestion in the area."
