Double crash drama on Glasgow M8 sparks road chaos as police race to scene

Motorists are being warned to expect long delays after two separate car smashes on the M8 in Glasgow.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the first collision at around 5.30pm on Thursday after the accident on the eastbound carriageway after Junction 12 Riddrie.

Traffic soon began to build in the area with rush hour travellers facing almost immediate delays in queuing traffic.

A second collision happened on the eastbound onslip at Junction 11 Stepps (Traffic Scotland)

A second smash then occurred on the eastbound onslip at Junction 11 Stepps shortly before 6pm.

It is not currently known how many vehicles were involved in the first accident but emergency services have been called to the scene.

There are no reports of any injuries relating to the second collision.

Two out of the three lanes have been closed with traffic queuing back to Junction 15.

Traffic Scotland tweeted: “M8 eastbound J11. RTC at the end of the slip. Lanes 2 & 3 (of 3) are closed due to a separate RTC. Police on scene. Traffic heavy on approach.

“Separate RTC from J12.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.50 pm on Thursday, 29 October, 2020, police received a report of a 2 vehicleRTC at junction 11 eastbound on the M8.

“There are no reports of anyone injured at this time.”
