Double blaze drama in Kilmarnock town centre as crews tackle late night fires

Emergency services were called to two fires in Kilmarnock town centre last night.

The first blaze broke out at a building on King Street at 9.30pm.

Police say the second huge blaze, which was first called in at 10.55pm, was outside a building on Sandbed Lane.

Ayrshire Live asked cops today if the incidents were linked and police said that they were keeping an open mind as their investigation progresses.

We told you last night that officers had cordoned off alleyways from King Street, which ran parallel with the scene.

At least three fire appliances turned up at the scene.

Thick acrid smoke could also be seen from miles away and has surrounded town centre shops.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a fire at a property on King Street in Kilmarnock around 9.30pm on Friday, May 20.

“We are also aware of another fire outside a building on Sandbed Lane around 10.55pm.

“Both fires were extinguished and no one was injured.

“Enquiries are ongoing into both incidents and officers are keeping an open mind as these progress.

“Anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident 3875 of 20 May.”
