Double armed robberies at Scots newsagent probed by cops

Police Scotland officers are probing two armed robberies at the same newsagent within 14 hours of each other.

In both cases the robber used a knife to threaten staff in what police believe may be linked attacks.

In the first incident an unidentified man entered Laidlaws on Bruce Gardens in the Dalneigh area of Inverness shortly before 10pm on Saturday July 31.

He threatened a staff member with a knife but they managed to repel him and he fled the shop, according to Police Scotland.

The suspect has been described as around 6ft or above in height and of a slim to medium build.

He was wearing a blue and black hooded jacket with a white logo on the rear, dark bottoms, blue latex style gloves and a face covering.

The premises were then targeted the following day at around 11.45am when a man threatened a staff member with a knife and wooden stick.

He stole a sum of money from the till, believed to be between £100 to £200, before he left.

The suspect wore a black hooded top with a large white Adidas logo on the front, blue jeans and dark trainers.

Detective Sergeant Joanna Macleod said: “Both of these incidents were frightening ordeals for the staff members involved. These are unusual incidents for Inverness and we are carrying out extensive enquiries to identify the man responsible.

“While we are keeping an open mind, we are treating the incidents as linked.

“I would urge anyone who saw a man matching these descriptions on either Saturday night or Sunday morning in the Dalneigh area to come forward.

“I would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have private CCTV or dashcam footage from the area.

“Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting incident 1639 of 1 August, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
