'Doting' young Scots mum given just weeks to live after shock cancer diagnosis

A Scots community has rallied around a young mum given just weeks to live following a shock cancer diagnosis.

Sarah Fraser, from Livingston, West Lothian, was stunned to be told by medics she had bowel cancer after complaining of stomach pain.

Edinburgh Live reports the 27-year-old had been taken into hospital on March 19, where she underwent a series of tests.

More tests followed the next day before she was given the devastating news she had cancer.

Sarah Fraser has been described as a 'doting' mother (UGC)

Around a fortnight later, it was confirmed that the cancer was in her bowels, but had spread to her lymph nodes, chest and the lining of her stomach.

Doctors gave Sarah, who is mum to eight-year-old Joseph, just weeks to live.

Heartbroken friends and family have now rallied round and launched a fundraiser to cover funeral costs and help support the little boy in life without his mum.

Launched by close pal Nicole Sweeney, at the time of writing, the fundraiser has gathered some £2,000.

Nicole said: "This is shocked us all and we are all heartbroken and devastated. Sarah has been amazing taking it in her stride and taking day by day.

"She’s the type of girl who is always there for anyone even in her time of need she’s putting others feelings before her own.

"Every decision she made was for her son even if that meant she lost out. She is the most wonderful, amazing, lovable, caring, kind helpful, and an amazing mum ,she's honestly is just amazing and those who very lucky enough to know her would say the same."

She added: "Sarah doesn’t have life insurance she didn’t think she would be dealt this card in life and it’s totally devastated her and her family but most of all it will leave an 8 year old boy without a mum.

A fundraiser has been launched for Sarah (UGC)

"She’s a doting mum and Joseph is always her first priority so she’s asked to set this up to see if we can help take the burden off the family in the way of funeral costs but also to see if she can leave Joseph a little something from his mum for later in life.

"It would be really nice to get Sarah a nice gift to give to her son or possibly create some special memories for him and her but as time is short we need to do this as fast as we can so we’re asking for all your help."

A facebook page, Sarah's story, has also been created for fundraising and raffle ideas.
