Largo, the newest hero joining Dota 2
The centeriece of patch 7.40 is Largo, a versatile support hero born from the enigmatic Murkroots of Velu’Mar. With the quirky charm of a frog wielding a two-stringed instrument, Largo brings both personality and utility to the battlefield.
In gameplay, Largo is a highly flexible enabler who thrives in chaotic skirmishes. Armed with slick-strumming fingers and a sticky-whip tongue, he can grant allies damage, healing, or movement speed while also dispelling both friends and foes depending on the situation. His kit focuses on amplifying teammates through efficient spellcasting and applying pressure to enemies by projecting increased damage.
Largo’s tongue allows him to quickly catch allies or opponents, helping dictate the flow of fights, while his ever-present froglings stomp around the battlefield to disrupt positioning. When engagements escalate, Largo steps into the spotlight, strumming Murkroot classics that bestow powerful team-wide blessings, letting players adjust the tone and tempo of a fight firmly in their favor.
Dota 2 7.40 update details
Patch 7.40 is more than just the debut of Largo—it’s a sweeping overhaul that reshapes heroes, items, and the battlefield itself. Several fan-favorite heroes have undergone significant reworks designed to refresh their playstyles and redefine their impact at all stages of the game.

Lone Druid has gained a suite of new tools for both him and his bear. Sylla can now root enemies with a brand-new Entangle ability, while the Spirit Bear receives its own fully revamped talent tree.
Slark is deadlier and more elusive than ever. His Essence Shift has become an innate ability, and the new Saltwater Shiv lets him sap enemy health regeneration and movement speed, making him a persistent threat in extended fights.
Treant Protector has grown more aggressive with a reworked Leech Seed and an upgraded Overgrowth, giving him the tools to punish enemies who venture too close to his forests. Treant’s changes emphasize a more proactive, in-your-face style of play, shifting him from a reactive protector to a formidable frontline presence.
The patch also refreshes the neutral item pool, introducing three new items—Weighted Dice, Idol of Scree’Auk, and Riftshadow Prism—while retiring Helm of the Undying, Sister’s Shroud, and Pyrrhic Cloak.
Beyond hero and item updates, Valve has implemented terrain adjustments and a wide range of tweaks across heroes and items. These changes improve map flow, balance power spikes, and encourage more strategic diversity in both professional tournaments and pub matches.
Winter Treasure 2025 released

Rounding out the patch is the release of Winter Treasure Collector’s Cache, which features 16 cosmetic sets for a diverse lineup of heroes. This year’s collection includes sets for Shadow Fiend, Primal Beast, Broodmother, Enigma, Ringmaster, Morphling, Silencer, Centaur Warrunner, and Tiny, among others.
With a new hero, major balance updates, and a fresh batch of cosmetics, the Dota 2 7.40 update sets the stage for a shifting meta as players explore Largo’s musical toolkit and adapt to the patch’s big changes.
