Doritos pay teen £15,000 for super rare 'puffed out' nacho chip

Snack giant Doritos paid a 13-year-old girl £15,000 for a "rare" puffed-up version of one of their crisps.

Rylee Stuart, 13, said she was "surprised" when the company contacted her with a $20,000 (£14,600) offer for a puffy Dorito.

The Gold Coast teen uploaded a video of the unusual corn snack on her TikTok and soon went viral, reports say.

A caption written on the video, shared with her 11,600 followers, read: "I found a puff Dorito! Is this valuable or should I just eat it. Tell me please".

In an interview with Australia's 9News, Rylee said there has been a family debate over who gets the cash.

"I was about to eat it, and I thought I better save it for later," the teen recalled.

Rylee found the air-filled corn snack in her packet of supreme cheese Doritos, and tried to sell it on eBay (eBay)

"Dad is saying that since he bought the packet, it's his. But I ate the packet and found it, so I believe it is mine."

The entrepreneurial youngster put the weird crisp up for sale on eBay with a starting bid of $0.99 and it rose to $5,000 within two hours, according to reports.

Bids flooded in, rocketing up to $20,100, before eBay intervened, axed the auction and removed it from their site.

In stepped Doritos, who were so impressed with Rylee's business savvy they matched the final bid and paid her $20,000 (£14,600).

eBay took the sale down, but Doritos decided to offer the youngster £15,000 for her business "ingenuity" (Nine)

"We've been so impressed with Rylee's boldness and entrepreneurial spirit, so we wanted to make sure the Stuart family were rewarded for their creativity and love for Doritos," Doritos Chief Marketing Officer Vandita Pandey said, according to reports.

After checking her eBay account, and seeing the air-filled crisp attract so much attention, she was shocked.

'I saw $10,000 and I like screamed,' she said.

Rylee was invited on to Australia's prime time Today Show, where she showed viewers the Dorito packed safely on a piece of kitchen roll in a tupperware box.

She said: "I didn't think I would have all of this happen.

"But I guess it did and, I am surprised."
