Dopey crook arrested after attending court armed with 'large knife'

A dopey criminal showed he wasn't the sharpest tool in the box - after turning up to court armed with a knife.

Police officers in Manchester city centre couldn't believe their eyes when the man was caught at security gates with what was described as a 'large kitchen knife'.

He was arrested on the spot.

In a sarcastic tweet, Greater Manchester Police said: "If you’re attending court, it’s best not to bring a large kitchen knife with you.

"Male arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article. He remains in police custody. #KnifeCrime"

Figures published last year showed more than 800 blades and other weapons were seized by security staff at UK courts in a year.

WiganToday reported that the total figure for Manchester Crown Square and Manchester Minshull Street Crown Courts was 51 blades confiscated in 2018.

Back in 2012, the M.E.N revealed that more than 300 weapons had been seized in Greater Manchester's court buildings in a year.

A total of 383 bottles and cans of booze were also taken off people at security checks, along with illegal drugs of all types and other items which could be used as weapons.

The Courts and Tribunal Service says ‘rigorous’ security measures were in place at all courts, including X-rays machines and knife arches.
