An elderly couple were duped into letting a stranger into their home who then went on to steal cash from them.
The incident occurred on Clippens Road, Linwood, around 12pm on Sunday, November 6.
A woman knocked on the door and got speaking with the inhabitants of the property. She explained to them that she was in need of money and the couple kindly offered for her to come inside and talk further.
However, their trust was to be betrayed by the woman, who it is alleged stole cash from the property.
Police are looking at CCTV footage in the area to try and identify the woman.
Officers in Paisley also sought remind people to be wary of the dangers of bogus callers.
Police Scotland have issued the following advice for anybody who thinks they may be dealing with a bogus caller on their doorstep: “Keep the caller out of your house. Ask them to leave and call the police immediately on 101.
“You might also want to try to alert a family member or attract a neighbour’s attention. You should always contact the police first by dialling 101.
“The police would much rather attend a false alarm than have someone fall victim to a doorstep criminal.
“If the person refuses to leave your door, or you feel threatened or scared – call 999 and ask for the police.
“Note down their description and the description of any vehicle they’re using, including make, model, colour and registration number.”
