Doorstep burns victim deserves a life without fear

Anne Crossan’s old life was stopped in its tracks when she was the victim of a horrific attack on her own doorstep.

The former model had lighter fluid thrown in her face by Stewart Watson before he set her on fire in a twisted act of revenge.

It was only because she was wearing glasses that Anne wasn’t blinded in the vicious assault in 2016.

It would have been easy for her to fade from public view after enduring such a traumatic experience.

Instead she had the courage to rebuild her life and is still bravely standing up to the coward that scarred her.

Watson was eligible for early release after being jailed for eight years in 2016 but he’ll now stay behind bars after a parole board decided not to let him out.

The board’s decision was in part because of a letter sent by Anne last month explaining the impact the attack has had on her.

The authorities deserve credit on this occasion for listening to the victim rather than the perpetrator.

Anne has already been forced to move away from her old home.

This brave and resilient woman deserves to live her life without fear.

Scooter alert

Electric scooters offer a cheap and practical way to get around.

Glasgow City Council has already approved plans for a trial of an e-scooter rental scheme.

But like any new product hitting the market, we need to make sure the right rules are in place to keep users safe.

Rose Moran spent five days in hospital after she was thrown over the handlebars of an e-scooter.

She’s now appealed for Scots to be careful when using the popular two-wheeled devices.

Our towns and cities are still adapting to fit the welcome rise in cycling in recent years.

We now need to ensure the right regulations are in place to accommodate e-scooters as well.

It’s no use waiting for more people getting hurt before taking action.

No more excuses

The popular Hogmanay sketch show Only an Excuse is coming to an end.

It has delighted audiences over the years with often hilarious impressions of the great and the good of Scottish football.

But like a top player at the end of his career, the time is right to hang up the boots.
