Doorbell camera films East Kilbride firebomber torch Mazda in chilling footage outside family home

A doorbell camera captured chilling footage of a car being torched in the dead of night.

Kyle Wilson's white Mazda6 Estate was parked outside his girlfriend's home in East Kilbride's Cadell Gardens when it was targeted.

A neighbour's video shows a man crouching between parked cars with what appears to be a petrol canister mere seconds before the car is engulfed in flames at 11.40pm on Tuesday, October 18.

The culprit is then seen sprinting away from the scene.

Kyle's girlfriend's father and friend, who were out walking the dogs, are then shown running towards the blaze before raising the alarm.

The 27-year-old told Lanarkshire Live that the traumatic, unprovoked attack has left him fearing for his safety.

He said: "I don't have a clue who could have done this. It seems completely random as I have no debts or enemies.

"A couple of Ring doorbell cameras show somebody crawling behind other cars to get to mine and then it bursts into fire.

"It looks very intentional, they wanted that car, but nobody knows why. I've only had the car five weeks.

"Police and CID came and spoke to me and took our statements and were just as confused as us.

"They said normally with these targeted incidents we know who it is because they're either drug dealers or in a gang or known to be in with certain crowds.

"But I'm not the type of person who's got any links to anything like that. I don't owe any money or have any kind of problems so it's a very random attack."

East Kilbride police said that no suspects have been identified following the incident.

The aerospace engineering student described the male suspect as of average height with a slim build.

He added: "I can't think why I would have been targeted. It puts that thought in your head when you're going round your daily business - what if it was meant for me.

"So there's a constant niggling fear in the back of my head thinking 'is someone out to get me?'. Do I need to think about my family and friends around me?

"If someone is willing to go out and do that kind of damage, what are they willing to do in person. It's quite a harrowing realisation.

"I'm hoping an appeal could perk the ears of someone who might have known or seen something on the night."

Sergeant Scott Anderson urged the community to be vigilant and report suspicious activity.

He said: "Fireraising is a highly impactive crime. This incident appears to be isolated and unprovoked, there have been no incidents of a similar nature reported to police in the area."
