Doohan wins final race in fine F3 season

Pleas not to battle too fiercely with his teammate were ringing in Australian teenager Jack Doohan's ears as he claimed a hard-fought victory in the final race of the Formula 3 season.

Championship runner-up Doohan and Frenchman Clement Novalak duelled at the front for much of the Sunday's race in Sochi, Russia, as their team fretted that a mishap could cost their Trident outfit the the teams championship title.

Neither was prepared to yield as Novalak twice passed leader Doohan but only briefly.

And all worked out well as Doohan's win, with Novalak third, was enough for Trident to overtake championship winner Dennis Hauger's PREMA team on the teams standings and claim that title.

Ever polite, 18-year-old Doohan was making no apologies for not backing off from Novalak's challenge after securing his fourth win of his outstanding season as he prepares for an expected move up to Formula 2 in 2022.

"In the end I am a racing driver and I want to win," said Doohan.
