Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell is out here igniting debates about the classic card game Uno.
On Monday, he asked a question on Twitter along with a poll: “Do you have to say uno out when you play your last card in [Uno]??? Heated debate rn wit the fam.”
Now, I have been playing Uno since before Mitchell was born and I have NEVER heard that rule. I know you’re supposed to say “Uno!” when you have one card left or you’re penalized by having to draw two cards.
But according to nearly 62 percent of some 56,000 people who voted in the poll, this is a thing!
Do you have to say uno out when you play your last card in @realUNOgame ??? Heated debate rn wit the fam 😂😂

But Uno itself weighed in and all hell broke loose:
While calling "UNO Out" when you play your last card is a popular House Rule, it's not required.
🗣 UNO has spoken.

Here are some people debating it:
You can stack +2’s
You can stack +4’s
You CANNOT stack +2 on +4 and vice versa
You call UNO when you have 1 card IN YOUR HANDAnd ain’t nobody saying “Uno Out” to end the game. It ain’t in the rules. pic.twitter.com/FNlq158uqj

It’s Uno placing second to last card because there’s 1 left Uno then you have to say Uno out when you place the last card because you’re 1 card is gone and you’re out of Uno 1 pic.twitter.com/U9a6Dr39ev

That being said, I now know it is VERY popular to say “Uno out,” and I’m adopting it for future games because it sounds so fun to put down that final card and shout “UNO OUT!!” to the world.
