Donovan McNabb says he belongs in the Hall of Fame; compares his numbers to Troy Aikman’s

Donovan McNabb currently stands as the best signal caller in Eagles history, and regardless if you like the former Philadelphia star or not, you can’t discount the fact that his numbers don’t lie. McNabb is using those statistics to make a case for enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame one day, telling TMZ Sports that he “absolutely” is a Hall of Famer.

To prove his point, McNabb attempted to compare his numbers, to those of Hall of Fame quarterback and three-time Super Bowl winner, Troy Aikman.

“I’m not hesitating on that. I am a Hall of Famer,” McNabb said on a TMZ Sports TV Show. “My numbers speak for themselves. My numbers are better than Troy Aikman.”

“When they look at my numbers, yeah, but then they always want to add other stuff into it. ‘Was he an All-Pro? Was he this? How many Super Bowl opportunities?'” McNabb said via TMZ.com. “But, people don’t realize how hard it is to get to the NFC Championship and to get there five times, and then make it to a Super Bowl? It’s tough.”

Aikman was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006 and in fairness, Tony Romo is the Cowboys all-time leading passer in a lot of statistics, and it doesn’t ensure he’ll ever reach the Hall. For comparison’s sake here are the numbers McNabb was referring to.

In 13 NFL seasons, McNabb passed for 37,276 yards, 234 touchdowns, 117 interceptions, all while completing 59.0-percent of his passes. One of the NFL’s most efficient rushing quarterbacks, McNabb accounted for over 3,400 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns. McNabb was a six-time Pro Bowler, who reached five NFC title games and one Super Bowl.

Aikman played one less season than McNabb, passing for 32,942 yards, 165 touchdowns, 141 interceptions with a 61.5 completion percentage. Aikman won three Super Bowls, has a Super Bowl MVP and was a six-time Pro Bowl. For Aikman’s part, you have to take into account that the Cowboys star also played with the NFL’s all-time leading rusher as well.
