Donovan McNabb attempts to clarify his comments made about Carson Wentz

Donovan McNabb is back in the center of Philly sports talk after he made controversial comments about Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback Carson Wentz. McNabb made front-page news recently when he implied that Carson Wentz would have to get the Eagles to the NFC title game over the next few years, or risk being replaced via a draft pick.

“I think in the next two years or so he has to find a way to get out of the second round of the playoffs. What Nick Foles was able to do taking them to the Super Bowl … proved that some people can get into that offense and be very successful. (Wentz) hasn’t been healthy, he hasn’t really proven to me besides the year before he got hurt and the first year of really (being) an MVP candidate.

He needs to get back to that mode. I think personally if he can’t get out of the second round in the next two, maybe three years. Really two years to be honest with you, if they can’t get out of the second round, they should look to possibly draft another quarterback because you just don’t know about his durability.”

On Sunday night, Eagles star right tackle Lane Johnson jumped in the fray in defense of Wentz, blasting McNabb via Twitter while using snake emojis.

Maybe a half an hour later, Johnson joined Paul Jolovitz on SportsRadio 94WIP to explain his tweet directed at McNabb.

McNabb responded on Monday trying to clarify that it’s nothing personal against Wentz.

McNabb, for his part, gets the benefit of a resume that includes four straight NFC Championship Games and an appearance in Super Bowl XXXIV. Over his career, McNabb made six Pro Bowls and is the team record holder in wins (92), completions (2,801), attempts (4,746), yards (32,873) and touchdowns (216). What McNabb is likely struggling with is the realization that Wentz, if he can stay healthy, will smash every one of those records and then some, while rewriting Eagles history in the process.

That can be a tough pill to swallow for a guy who only had a short time to enjoy being the best ever in Kelly Green.
