Donny van de Beek training ground claim sheds new light on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decision

Donny van de Beek may be on the peripheral at Manchester United because he isn't showing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer enough in training.

That's according to former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan, who has leaped to the defence of the Red Devils boss.

Solskjaer has been criticised in recent weeks for failing to find a place in his United team for £35million Holland international Van de Beek.

Marco van Basten even went so far as to suggest his compatriot had made a mistake in signing for Manchester United.

But Jordan reckons there is more to this story than meets the eye, and has suggested perhaps Van de Beek isn't doing enough to prove to his new boss he deserves to start.

"I don't think it's helpful having people like Marco van Basten coming out with little comments about what he thinks that player should and shouldn't have done," Jordan said on talkSPORT.

"What happened once upon a time at Manchester United was just because you signed a player, you were a very good side and people came into Man United as good players, it didn't mean they walked straight into the team.

"So with respect to Manchester United's squad, perhaps he isn't doing enough at this moment in time on the training ground to get into that particular side.

"But going to the argument, you sign a player for £40m and you expect him to be there and thereabouts. But he is there and thereabouts.

"I look at this and say when Manchester United won that game on Wednesday against PSG, did we hear any mention of him?

"So it becomes a mention when Manchester United aren't playing particularly well.

"Because the game [against Chelsea] stank to high heaven, it was a snooze fest beyond all snooze fests, and you look at it and football fans and football people always look at what you haven't got in that side or whatever you haven't got in your team as to the reasons why you are unsuccessful.

"Would it have made a great deal of difference in that particular game? I suspect it possibly may not have done."
