Donny van de Beek to Tottenham: Last-gasp bid, £40m transfer fee, five-year Man United deal

Donny van de Beek's future is set to be resolved this week.

Linked with some of Europe's biggest clubs over the past 12 months, it appears that the Dutchman is finally on the verge of leaving Ajax.

Tottenham have been mentioned in regards to a move for the 23-year-old in the past, with Barcelona and Manchester United also believed to be keen.

So, here is everything we know about the player ahead of the summer transfer deadline.

Tottenham's transfer stance

Well, as much as fans would like Jose Mourinho to bring the talented player to N17, a summer move looks incredibly unlikely.

football.london understands that Spurs do hold a strong interest in £45million-rated Van de Beek and they have tracked him for a number of seasons now.

However, their financial position would require them to sell players before they would be in a position to move for him due to his big price tag.

Because of that they are not expected to battle for his signature.

Van de Beek 'will sign' for Manchester United

Reports from Spain claim that Manchester United have indeed won the race for the midfielder.

According to Sport, he 'will sign' for the Red Devils and he will actually travel to Manchester next week to complete his transfer.

The Barcelona-based newspaper report that the player has already told this information to his Ajax teammates.

Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman was intent on luring his fellow countryman to the Nou Camp but it is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men who look on course to sign him.

Ajax absence

Talk of an exit for van de Beek went into overdrive on Saturday due to his absence for Ajax's friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt.

"There have been some developments that made us decide us to keep him out of today's squad," said Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag.

"We will see what happens. We'll make an announcement as soon as there's some clarity.

Last-gasp Spurs bid

Tottenham have failed with an 11th-hour bid to snatch the Dutch midfielder from under the noses of Man United.

The report states that United chief negotiator Matt Judge moved in to seal an agreement with the Holland international after being alerted to Spurs' attempt to hijack the move.

As a result, van de Beek, will arrive at Old Trafford in a £40million deal in the coming days.

He is said to have agreed a five-year deal – with the option of an extra 12 months.
