Donny van de Beek stance on Manchester United future

Donny van de Beek is ready to snub interest from Italy, Spain and Germany to stay at Manchester United this summer.

The Holland international endured a tough first campaign at Old Trafford and he has been linked with a move away during this transfer window.

Clubs in Serie A, La Liga and Bundesliga have all made tentative enquiries but just 12 months after joining United for £35million Van de Beek sees his future at Old Trafford and he wants to stay and fight for his place.

Sources close to the player have said the 24-year-old is feeling "fit, fresh and ready for the challenge" after missing the European Championship this summer to rest a groin injury that had been bothering him towards the end of the season.

Van de Beek was included in the initial Netherlands squad by Frank de Boer and he was an unused substitute in the 2-2 draw with Scotland in a friendly in June, but he withdrew three days before the tournament began.

The former Ajax midfielder is back at Carrington this week, along with Anthony Martial, as they train with medical and fitness staff ahead of joining the rest of the squad for pre-season on Monday. That could mean they feature in the Old Trafford friendly against Brentford on Wednesday (July 28) or at Preston the following Saturday (July 31).

Van de Beek joined United from Ajax last August and scored on his debut against Crystal Palace, but he struggled to make an impact in the team after that, with the midfield hard to break into.

His own form suffered in the second half of last season and he started just four of United's 38 Premier League games.

But having signed a five-year deal Van de Beek wants to stay and prove himself at a club of the size and stature of United, rather than seek an exit already.

He was fielded in a deep midfield role, attacking midfield and on the left-wing last season, showing the versatility he gathered coming through the ranks at Ajax, but it also meant he struggled to nail down a place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

A planned midfield revamp this season could yet open up more opportunities for the Dutchman, with Solskjaer considering a switch from 4-2-3-1 to 4-3-3, which could see two more advanced midfielders rather than just the one at the moment, a role which Bruno Fernandes has made his own.

Paul Pogba will also provide competition for that role. The France international spent much of the second half of last season on the left of the attack, but a switch of shape in midfield could free him to move centrally.
