Donny van de Beek spotted training with ex Manchester United player Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has been spotted training for pre-season with former Red Timothy Fosu-Mensah.

The Dutch playmaker suffered a heart-breaking blow after sustaining a groin injury last month, forcing him to miss the Netherlands' Euro 2020 campaign.

It was a familiar feeling of disappointment for the 24-year-old after he endured a disappointing debut campaign at Old Trafford, following his £35million move from Ajax last September.

He started just four Premier League games for United in what was a frustrating first season in England, but looks to be training hard in an effort to bounce back ahead of next season's opener against Leeds United on August 14.

Van de Beek was spotted working out in a gym session with former United teammate and fellow countryman Fosu-Mensah.

The pair have been close friends for a number of years, having spent six years together in Ajax's academy before sealing respective moves to United.

Fosu-Mensah departed the club for German side Bayer Leverkusen in January of this year, citing the lack of first-team opportunities as the reason for leaving Old Trafford.

The versatile 23-year-old enjoyed a productive start to life in the Bundesliga, playing seven times before his progress was halted due to an ACL tear during a game against Freiburg in February.

Both players will be looking to get back into fitness as soon as possible with Van de Beek expected to be available by the time the new season starts.

He will be hoping he can recapture the form next season that he demonstrated with Ajax, bagging 51 goals and assists during his last two seasons with the Dutch outfit
