Donny van de Beek sends message after Manchester United cameo role vs Atalanta

Donny van de Beek has sent a defiant message after his cameo role in Manchester United's draw against Atalanta on Wednesday night.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored late in either half as United came from behind twice to rescue a 2-2 draw in their Champions League meeting with Van de Beek making a contribution from the bench.

The Dutch midfielder made only his fourth appearance of the season when he replaced Bruno Fernandes three minutes from time but still managed to make an impact on the match despite his limited run out.

In his short spell on the pitch Van de Beek, 24, nearly grabbed a goal of his own and made a key run in the build-up to Ronaldo's injury time equaliser — two key contributions for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

Taking to social media after the match the former Ajax midfielder basked in his rare outing by posting pictures of himself from the match along with defiant message: "Never give up" followed by a bicep emoji and a red circle.

Van de Beek was also praised by Solskjaer in his post-match press conference along with fellow substitute Jadon Sancho, who has also struggled so far this season.

"Donny provided the run for the last goal," the United manager said. "He keeps working and he's got qualities in there to unlock close defences and he almost scored as well. I thought all of them who came on did well.

"I come into crime every time I pick a team because players get left out. Tottenham went a different system, today still a different system with a back five.

"Jadon will come good. He has a great work-rate and attitude, he was really sharp when he came on, the first header he cleared for us and he was sharp on the ball. So they'll all have a big role to play and he'll have many, many years as a good player here."
