Donny van de Beek was handed a rare start for Manchester United on Sunday.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer selected the £35million signing from Ajax to play midfield against Leicester City in the quarter-final of the FA Cup.
It was billed as a last chance saloon for the Dutchman to impress his boss and make a claim for a regular place in the team.
But Van de Beek failed to perform under the circumstances, and as has become routine for the Holland international, he spent a portion of the match on the bench.
Solskjaer made the change midway through the second half with United 2-1 down at the King Power stadium.
The Manchester United manager in fact made four changes at once, with Van de Beek leaving the pitch alongside Alex Telles, Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.

Coming on in their places were Edinson Cavani, Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw.
BBC cameras focused on Van de Beek as he made his way off the pitch looking disappointed.
But he showed his support for his team-mates on the touchline and even made a beeline for Fernandes and held him by the face.
He appeared to say something to the midfielder - as if encouraging him to turn the game around for United before walking away.
Cameras continued to follow Van de Beek as he went to find his seat, and he bit his lip in apparent disappoint with himself for not making the most of his opportunity.

Van de Beek is looking increasingly likely to leave United at the end of the season.
Recent reports claim the Dutchman wants to speak with Solskjaer and Ed Woodward over his role and get assurances on his future.
But allegations have emerged that Solskjaer didn't actually want Van de Beek, and with United looking bright in the Premier League, it is hard to argue against the Norwegian not playing the Dutchman.
