Donny van de Beek's agent has hinted at a promise made by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over the midfielder's role at Manchester United.
The Dutchman is represented by Guido Albers, who says he is "happy" with the situation after van de Beek made just four Premier League starts in a difficult first year at Old Trafford.
Yet to feature in either of the Red Devils' two top-flight matches this season, van de Beek was linked with a move away from Manchester this summer after United paid Ajax £35.7million for his signature less than 12 months ago.
The 24-year-old also missed out on representing the Netherlands at the European Championships due to injury but his agent believes things are now set to turn around with new-found "clarity."
"Everyone within the club knows that Donny cannot have another season like last year," Albers told De Telegraaf.
"In preparation, clarity would be provided about his role.
"The fans had already embraced him before, but the most important thing is that the coach has now provided clarity in the English press," the agent stated.
"We are happy with that. I assume that Donny will play a lot in one of the positions in midfield in the coming period."
Solskjaer has insisted van de Beek "will be important" over the course of the new campaign.
Following Sunday's draw at Southampton, the Norwegian said: "Whenever you don’t win a game you look at it but I always look at it as much when you win as well.
"What could we have done differently?
"I thought Nemanja [Matic] was excellent, Antho [Martial] was close to scoring a goal but Jadon [Sancho] and Donny will be important for us."
Fans noticed that the playmaker had bulked up during pre-season, something Solskjaer commented on ahead of the new season when asked about the condition of his squad.
"I think it’s a combination of many things," he explained.

How should Solskjaer use van de Beek play this season? Comment your thoughts below.
"You can say with Donny, he’s had the summer away, he was injured and he’s had his own fitness regime and programme.
Solskjaer added: "I think he felt the Premier League is different and that he needs to build up that physical strength. He’s looking good.
"He’s still not lost his endurance and his movement, so that’s very good."
Red Devils legend Rio Ferdinand thinks van de Beek's future is less certain, telling FIVE : "Donny van de Beek, he’s not going to get a chance in this team is he?
"£40 million and he ain’t going to play.
"Anyone coming in under Ole is an Ole signing. You give him the credit for the players who come in an do well, and you’ve got to take [criticism]," the former United defender said.
"I’m not one of those people who think every signing is going to be great. You are going to get them wrong, Fergie got them wrong.
"It’s inevitable when you sign so many players that you get one or two wrong.
"van De Beek, you don’t know if he’s wrong or right because he doesn’t get the opportunity. That’s the problem."
