Ever since Donny van de Beek joined Manchester United from Ajax for £35million in the summer of 2020, it’s been a mixed adventure.
Scoring on his debut against Crystal Palace may have been the only highlight his United tenure so far.
Be it the form of Bruno Fernandes in the number 10 role or manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s dependence on Fred and Scott McTominay at the base of midfield, van de Beek has yet to get his career at Old Trafford up and running.
The 2021/2022 season has seen things take a turn for the worse, from the club rejecting a late loan move to Everton, to the midfielder visibly showing his frustration at not making it off the bench in the Champions League tie against Villarreal.
With the international break upon us, here are the latest headlines surrounding van de Beek.
Van de Beek's 'total football'
Speaking after United's 1-1 draw against Everton, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said that the team "broke up play really well, but attacked maybe too fast.”
In a team that boasts the attacking talents of Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Edinson Cavani, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial and the returning Marcus Rashford, attacking 'too fast' is an issue the club shouldn't have to fix.
However, something has to change and van de Beek could be the in-house solution should Solskjaer turn to him.

Everton bound?
Van de Beek was a target for Premier League side Everton in the summer transfer window but a move failed to materialise.
Everton's director of football Marcel Brands confirmed a deal was discussed and told NOS that if possible, it's a move they may revisit in January.
"You always depend on whether a club wants to cooperate," he said.
