Donny van de Beek has given his preferred transfer destination amid Arsenal links

Reported transfer target Donny van de Beek could have given Arsenal some encouragement over a potential move this summer.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Dutchman in the past amid their search for a midfielder.

Arsenal are rumoured to be interested in a whole host of players including Yves Bissouma, Ruben Neves and Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Meanwhile, football.london understands that a creative midfielder is also on Mikel Arteta’s shopping list.

Whilst an Arsenal move for van de Beek seemed somewhat unlikely considering he only joined Manchester United a year ago, reports have suggested that he is open to moving and the Reds are awaiting offers.

According to FCInterNews, the former Ajax man is prioritising a switch to a Premier League club should he depart Old Trafford or alternatively a major player within Spanish football. Italian giants Inter Milan have also been credited with an interest.

Following his move from Ajax last summer, van de Beek has severely underwhelmed.

He has made just 36 appearances for Man United since, only 15 of those being starts.

The 24-year-old managed just one goal in that time and that came in his first outing as a Manchester United player - a 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace at the start of the 2020/21 campaign.

He still has four years left on his Old Trafford contract having been signed for a reported £35.7million.

Arsenal icon and Ajax director of football Marc Overmars has already urged his compatriot to be patient and bide his time with United instead of seeking a move away.

He said: "I think Donny should just fight, stay next year and try to claim a starting place.

“You shouldn’t leave so quickly."

The midfielder has been forced to miss Euro 2020 through injury.
