Donny van de Beek confirmed for another loan spell away from Old Trafford in January

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has agreed to join Eintracht Frankfurt on loan in January.

The Netherlands international will move to the Bundesliga club, providing he passes a medical, and Frankfurt will have an option to buy him in the summer.

Van de Beek, who has 18 months left on his United contract, has only made 62 appearances in three-and-a-half seasons at Old Trafford.

While he excelled for Erik ten Hag at Ajax, he has only played twice for United this season and was omitted from their squad for the Champions League.

Van de Beek, who cost United £40m, went on loan to Everton in the 2021-22 season, suffered a cruciate ligament injury this January and has only played 21 minutes of first-team football since then. He came close to joining French side Lorient at the end of the summer transfer window.

For now, the 26-year-old remains available for United until the move goes through and, with Ten Hag without midfielders Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Mason Mount, is likely to be on the bench against Liverpool on Sunday.

Van de Beek could be the first of several players leaving Old Trafford in January. United are willing to listen to offers for Jadon Sancho, who has been training with the Under-18s for the last three months after falling out with manager Ten Hag.

Raphael Varane, meanwhile, will enter the last six months of his contract and, if United do not sell him in January, will be able to discuss a summer move to a club abroad from the start of 2024.

There is a break clause in left-back Sergio Reguilon’s loan deal from Tottenham. United may decide they do not need the Spaniard if Tyrell Malacia, who has been out all season with a knee injury, returns to fitness.
