Donny van de Beek breaks silence on Manchester United injury struggles

Donny van de Beek is looking to do everything he can to help the Manchester United team after his recent return from injury.

The Dutch midfielder was sidelined for seven weeks with a muscular injury before he returned as a substitute against FC Sheriff a week ago, but he has still not started a match for United since December 2021.

Van de Beek has not lined up in a meaningful Premier League game since December 2020 at West Ham, and on that occasion he was substituted at half-time.

Unsurprisingly, the 25-year-old's lack of regular playing time means he has not been included in the Netherlands squad for the last 18 months and he was omitted from their preliminary World Cup squad by coach Louis van Gaal.

Van de Beek will be hoping to feature as much as possible in United's final four matches before the World Cup starts later this month and he is eager to make up for lost time under former Ajax mentor Erik ten Hag.

"To be injured is always the most difficult thing for a player," he told MUTV. "You want to be on the pitch, you want to be around the guys in the stadium; you want to feel the grass; and it is a hard time if you are injured.

"I'm happy to be back, and I have to stay fit now for a longer time and just try to help the team."
