Donna Air's accent shocks viewers again as she appears on The Chase

Donna Air's accent got people talking again after she appeared on The Celebrity Chase on Sunday night.

The Newcastle-born actress has sparked confusion with her voice over the past couple of years after being on the likes of Dancing on Ice and This Morning and she's done it again with her latest TV appearance.

Donna, who shot to fame alongside Ant and Dec on Byker Grove in the early 90s before having a music career in girl band Crush, moved onto being a TV presenter on the likes of The Big Breakfast and MTV Select and was recently on screen in the new series of BBC drama The Split.

While she was born and bred on Tyneside, Donna, who recently tested positive for coronavirus, hasn't lived on home turf for some years now and you can tell from her accent as there wasn't much of a Geordie twang to be heard in her voice.

And, knowing she was once on Byker Grove, viewers of The Chase were surprised to hear her speak as she took on Paul Sinha for charity.

One reacted: "Has Donna Air spent the last 20 odd years trying to lose her geordie accent?"and another tweeted: "Didn’t Donna Air used to be a Geordie!?"

A third joked: "I’m old enough to remember when Donna Air was a Geordie," and another ranted: "Watching Donna Air on

@thechase didn’t she USED to be a Geordie? Can’t stand posh Geordies."
