Donkey at the Oscars was not actually 'Jenny the Donkey' from Banshees of Inisherin

Jenny the Donkey seemingly made a surprise appearance at the Oscars last night - but it turned out it wasn't actually her at all.

Many of the Banshees of Inisherin cast were there in the audience last night, and Jenny the Donkey was apparently one of them. Actors were surprised when host Jimmy Kimmel walked a donkey into the auditorium, introducing her as Jenny, the loyal companion of Colin Farrell’s Banshees character Padraic.

However, the LA Times and Vulture have reported that a different donkey was used. The Times quoted Director Martin McDonagh saying backstage that had used a stand-in and that “it wasn’t Jenny, we never would have allowed that to happen”.

Meanwhile actress Kerry Condon said: “No! All the way from Ireland? Course not!” The real donkey featured in the film has reportedly retired from showbusiness.

Nevertheless, Colin Farrell's reaction to seeing the donkey on stage was absolute gold, with some fans saying: "I want Colin Farrell to look at me the way he looks at Jenny the Donkey."

The Banshees of Inisherin received nine nominations at this year’s Oscars, but unfortunately missed out on getting an award for any of them.
