Donegal football final postponed due to Covid-19 concerns

Sunday's Donegal senior football final has been postponed due to mounting Covid-19 concerns.

With a player from the Kilcar club having already tested positive for the virus, their final against Naomh Conaill has been pushed back to Wednesday, October 7, with the Donegal senior panel having been forced into isolation last weekend after a player returned a positive sample.

Donegal had shelved a number of low-key fixtures in the county last weekend as local cases of coronavirus spiralled and the county board says that a “health warning” is still attached to one of the other three games down for decision this weekend, but they remain in the diary for now.

One of the knock-on effects of the postponement is that county manager Declan Bonner will be without a number of key players until well into next month as he prepares for the remainder of the Allianz League and the much anticipated knockout Ulster quarter-final against Tyrone on October 31/November 1.

The news comes as the Cork senior football final has been pushed back to October 11 following the postponement of two quarter-finals last weekend owing to cases of Covid-19.

It means that the competition will only be completed seven days before Cork resume action in Division Three of the Allianz Football League against Louth, a game in which they require just a draw to seal promotion, and four weeks ahead of their crunch Munster semi-final against Kerry.
