Donegal and Sligo GAA clubs halt activity over Covid-19 fears

GAA clubs in Donegal and Sligo have halted activity over coronavirus fears.

Donegal side Four Masters and Eastern Harps of Sligo have both temporarily shut down due to potential contacts with people who have shown symptoms of Covid-19.

Four Masters tweeted: "As a precautionary measure all activity within Four Masters GAA Club has been temporarily suspended from today until further notice.

"This is due to a potential contact with a person who has shown symptoms of COVID-19."

Eastern Harps said on Facebook: "As a precautionary measure, all activity within Eastern Harps GAA club has been temporarily suspended from this evening until further notice.

"This is due to potential contact of a person who has shown symptoms of COVID 19. We will keep you posted.

"Thank you and stay safe. Keep following Public health guidance at all times."

Meanwhile, Meath's Simonstown GAA have been given the green light to return to training on Wednesday after a panel member tested positive for the virus.

They said in a statement: "Following consultation with the HSE Public Health Contact Tracing Team  regarding the panel member who tested positive for Covid-19 it has been decided that Club Activities can resume tomorrow Wednesday 19th August.

"We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding and wish our colleague a full and speedy recovery and return to play.

"We ask all our members, players, and coaches to remain vigilant in the battle against Covid-19."
